6 Tips for Cold & Virus Season

It’s back to school time and you know what that means?!  Cold and Virus season is upon us…

Sharing a few tips to keep you and your loved ones healthy this fall:

  1. Minimize refined sugar and grains as they drive inflammation in the body. Read labels to better understand not only the macros (how many carbohydrates, added sugar, and protein) is in your snack or meal- but investigate the Ingredients too.

  2. Minimize or eliminate alcohol as its a massive immune system disrupter.  I understand that tailgating goes hand in hand with drinking- but you aren’t doing your body or brain any favors if you mindlessly consume alcohol every weekend.  Plan breaks and substitute with non- alcoholic options to give your immune system a fighting chance.  Aside from your immune system, alcohol can affect your metabolism for days so if weight loss is on your goal sheet you need to take a hard look at this.

  3. Keep a regular sleep schedule- and improve the quality of your sleep (by eliminating sugar and alcohol is a good start!) will help support a stronger immune system.  Poor sleep is closely linked to inflammation and the production of cytokines in the body- which weaken the immune system.  One of the best tips I can offer is to distance yourself from your smart phone and devices.  Having a world of information constantly at our hands is stimulating and can affect our changes of falling asleep and waking on a regular schedule.

  4. Supplementation- this is the time of year that I bump up my vitamin D intake (don’t forget your co-factors) along with zinc and vitamin C.  Link here to view my favorite Kitchen Shift immune supplements- including our NEW Equip Colostrum gummies.  Colostrum is know to improve the immune system by reducing inflammation, improving muscle growth and recovery, and supports mental health.

  5. Walking!  Yes- I cannot talk about walking enough!  We are entering a beautiful time of year to be outdoors and walking helps reduce stress and inflammation and helps increase blood flow and immune cell circulation.  Extra points for your metabolism if you are walking after dinner!

  6. Last but not least- the best way to put ALL these tips together is to do a round of POWERSHIFT!  My 10 day reset is a way to improve your metabolism and immune system in a supportive and non- restrictive way.  My next round will be October 9th- 18th!  Join the program that 100’s have participated in to improve how they look and feel- in just 10 short days.
