KITCHEN SHIFT 8 PILLARS OF HEALTH - PILLAR 1
At Kitchen Shift my clients follow the guidance of 8 Pillars of Health. To dive in and explore these Pillars is an invitation to explore you! We are each uniquely designed and these Pillars go deep and can uncover places you have been “stuck” that a diet never will!
In the coming weeks- I want to give you a peek into some of the education I offer clients around these Pillars.
PILLAR 1 - The foods we eat
Yes- This is pillar one as I think the choices we make around food- the ones we make multiple times a day- EVERY single day- for weeks and months and years- have INCREDIBLE influence on our health.
I am always amazed at how one healthy dietary change- put on repeat- can absolutely SHIFT your health. You can see results- from weight loss goals to improvements in energy, skin, and even muscle composition by simply making a habit of ONE thing.
Here is ONE thing you can work on this month: SNACKING!
This is a topic that comes up quite a bit in my program POWERSHIFT as I highly discourage snacking. Snacks tend to be empty calories, eaten out of boredom or some emotional trigger, and can have an impact on our blood glucose (which can affect our metabolic health).
Here are my 3 TIPS to help you redirect yourself when you are craving a snack:
Drink water! Yes, sometimes thirst is mistaken for hunger. Drink 8-12 ounces of water (electrolyte water even better) and wait 20 minutes to see if your snack craving passes.
Go for a short walk. I have come to understand the emotional connection to eating and anxiety/stress. And I have yet to see something lower anxiety faster than a walk. Make a deal with yourself. Walk for 15 minutes. Then check back in.
Power Nap. Yes, research has shown that we snack more when we are exhausted. If you aren’t great at power napping, try laying on the floor and getting your feet up on the way and above your head. It’s a restorative pose that can really bring your energy back.
WHAT TO SNACK ON IF YOU ARE INDEED STARVING:
My top 4 “go-to” snacks:
Aloha bars- the chocolate mint flavor is so good
Bone broth- protein packed and hydrating- with a boost of collagen for the skin. A win all around
Hard boiled eggs with a spicy season salt. I will pop two of those and I am good for hours!
A handful of blueberries. Sometimes you want something a bit sweeter and blueberries give you that sweet burst with the benefit of fiber and antioxidants.
